Affordable Gifts for Travelers – 2020

I honestly like buying gifts around the holidays and love the feeling when someone genuinely likes what I got them. Let’s face it, gift buying isn’t always easy, especially for people that are looking for experiences rather than physical objects. Then you add your budget into the mix and it sometimes feels impossible.

To help make your shopping experience better, I’ve made a list of affordable gifts for travelers that you can reference this holiday season.

Travel Sized Hand Sanitizer

Ok, so not the most exciting gift to give someone, but honestly necessary during this time. I feel like while this was a must for some travelers pre-pandemic, it is something that is an absolute necessity for travelers going forward. The travel-sized nature of these makes it a great stocking stuffer with the ability to later stuff it in a backpack, carry-on or purse.

Car Phone Holder

This might be one of the most useful things I have ever purchased for myself. I, and many others, have ditched a traditional GPS when driving as our phones have become the one-stop-shop for directions, music, and, of course, calls. Getting a phone holder has made driving easier and safer by keeping my phone in one spot.

The specific one that I am listing is the second type of phone holder that I’ve owned, and this one is SO MUCH better. What I like about this one is that you can tighten it to the air vent or suction cup it to your dash or window, when you are normally only stuck with one choice.

Silicone Travel Containers

A set of these containers make hygiene on the go so much easier. They provide you with the convenience of bringing your regular shampoo, conditioner, body wash, etc. on the road. The fact that they are silicone also allows you to get every last drop of product out of the container. With each container only holding 3oz makes getting through TSA ease.

Bonus, you also aren’t having to buy those plastic travel-size soaps every time you go on a trip.

Nalgene Water Bottle

I have so many water bottles and Nalgene always ranks as one of my cheaper favorite options. They’re durable, they fit into most water bottle holders on backpacks, and they come in a variety of colors & sizes. I, myself, have a few Nalgenes and love that they are super easy to make “mine” by adding a few stickers of places traveled to or things I like.

U.S. National Park Pass

It’s the gift that gives for a whole year. The National Park Pass is something that I only discovered a few years ago, but it has been such a great find since. The annual pass allows the holder and passengers in the vehicle, or 3 other adults (depending on the park), admission into over National Parks and a total of 2,000+ recreation areas across the country. You can either choose to get it as an actual pass right away or send it as a gift in case they already have a pass or want to wait to start the year. With National Park entrance fees being around $30 the National Park Pass is one of the most affordable gifts for travelers.

Portable Hammock

The perfect gift for the relaxing traveler on the go. It’s a gift that can be enjoyed at home, at the local park, or across the country. I have enjoyed kicking back in my hammock with a good book.

A Good Backpack

I think that every traveler needs a good backpack. That being said, there are different types of backpacks based on the type of traveler. This school-style backpack works great for more city travel. It’s a lighter backpack that can carry things like a computer, sweatshirt, and some other essentials. The other one is greater for longer hikes with the room to fit some clothes, enough water, and food. I have enjoyed both backpacks and think they would fit most travelers’ needs.

Portable Battery Bank

There is nothing worse than being out adventuring and having your phone die. A portable battery bank can be helpful for a long day out exploring a city, on an overnight flight, on a camping trip, or for someone that doesn’t have a phone with long battery life. There are a variety of different ones out there but this is the one that I use and don’t have any complaints.

GoPro

So… this isn’t the most affordable product out there, but I do think that a GoPro gets people the best all-around camera for an affordable price. The GoPro can take photos, 4K videos, and time-lapses of all the adventures that travelers go on. After the Hero 5 model all of them are waterproof so they can go on all kinds of trips. I currently have a Hero 5, but some newer models have even better stabilization capabilities.
